Jane Neri finished her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Santo Thomas in 1990. She got her MSN at the University of Phoenix Detroit Campus in 2005. She was the Administrative Director of Surgical Services at Baptist Medical Center. She is now the Director of Perioperative Services at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center South Bay.
Her clinical background includes working in long-term care, CICU, Neurotrauma SICU, OR, Perianesthesia nursing, and pool agency nursing, Her background as an educator includes Inservice Director, Med-Surg/Telemetry educator, Clinical Instructor at Macomb Community College, Oakland University, and former Faculty at the University of Phoenix, Texas A&M University College of Nursing and Baker College.
She is affiliated with University of Santo Tomas Nursing Association International (USTNAI). She served as President of the UST Nurses Association of Michigan.
Jane is a recipient of the 2010 PNA Michigan Nursing Excellence Award in Nursing.

Assistant Secretary- Kathleen Castro, MSN, RN, AGNP-BC
Kathleen Castro has been a registered nurse for three years. She obtained her BSN from California State University, East Bay and graduated as a magna cum laude in 2013. She is currently taking her MSN/ Adult-Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at the UTHSCSA. She is currently working at the University Hospital as an emergency room nurse. She has a variety of nursing experiences which include skilled nursing, rehabilitation, neurology, neurosurgery, med-surg, neuro ICU, and travel nursing. She loves to travel around the world with her loved ones. By the age of 50, she wants to visit all the seven continents of the world.
Treasurer- Maria Danet Lapiz-Bluhm, PhD, RN
Dr. Ma. Danet Lapiz-Bluhm is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She finished her BSN (cum laude) from Cebu State College, Cebu City, Philippines and postgraduate Honours (IIA) in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Queensland, Australia and then her PhD from the University of Nottingham, England, UK. Following postdoctoral stints at H. Lundbeck A/S, Denmark and at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, UTHSCA, she accepted the faculty post at the School of Nursing, UTHSCSA.
She was promoted to Associate Professor (from Assistant Professor) and also currently serving as Acting Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs and Diversity.
She is engaged in research including, but not limited to understanding of the effects of stress on the neurobiological systems and cognition, biomarkers for posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD), mechanisms that enhance scholarly achievement among undergraduate and graduate health professions, students, quality and patient safety interprofessional education, and health screening projects for underserved populations. She has presented in local, national and international conferences. She has published peer-reviewed papers and book chapters receiving numerous awards for her research.
Danet has been involved with PNASA's Education and Research Comittee since she became a member. She chaired the PNASA Awards Committee in 2012 organizing the first PNASA Excellence Awards.
Assistant Treasurer-Roselle Sadornas, MSN, RN, PCCN
Roselle is a BSN degree from Nueva Ecija Colleges and MSN grad from Xavier University, Ohio. Currrently she is the Patient Coordinator in a telemetry unit at University Hospital.
Auditor- Ella Tuazon, BSN, RN
Ella Tuazon is a graduate of Angeles University with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She served as Clinical Instructor at the Angeles University College of Nursing for two years with a specialization in Maternal and Child Nursing. She migrated to the US in 1987 and worked as a staff nurse at the Bronx Psychiatric Hospital, Bronx, NY. In 1988, she moved to New Jersey and worked as a staff nurse at Riverview Medical Center in Pediatrics, Post-Partum, and Nursery for over 24 years. She has been certified as a Pediatric Nurse and has been nominated for Nursing Excellence for a number of years while working at Riverview Medical Center.
Ella has been active with the Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey. She served as Corresponding Secretary of PNANJ from 1993-1995.
In 2013, she moved to San Antonio to join her family. She has since joined the Philippine Nurses Association of San Antonio.
Board Member Aura Casabar, BSN, RN, CCM
Aura received her BSN degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 1980 and migrated to Texas in 1982. She has worked in different critical care units for several years as a CCRN. Aura relocated to Florida in 1991 where she co-founded the Philippine Nurses Association of Gulf Coast Florida (PNAGF) in 1999.
A PNASA member since 2011, Aura had been an editor-in-chief of PNASA’s newsletter NewsLink and PNAGF’s newsletter Highlights. As a member of the Publicity Committee, she has been involved in publishing PNASA’s souvenir journals including the PNAA 33rd National Convention journal in 2012 and PNASA’s 25th Anniversary journal in March 2014. Aura is one of the administrators of PNASA's website and Facebook account.
Aura is a recipient of the 2018 South Texas Nurse Imagemaker Award given by the Texas Nurses Association District 8. and the Sigma Theta Tau International Delta-at-Large Chapter.
Aura currently works at Optum/United Healthcare delivering computer-based nursing care as a Nurse Case Manager.
Board Member- Arnelita Beraya, MSN, RN, CNL
Arnielita Beraya graduated from University of Eastern Philippines. She studied Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Nurse Leader at the University of Incarnate Word
She is a Nurse Educator at the University Health System and clinical Faculty at Galen College of Nursing.
She is currently the chair of Education Committee.
Board Member- Marietta T. Dela Cruz, BSN, RN
Marietta Dela Cruz is a Graduate Nurse at the University of Luzon in 1978 and BSN class 82 at Quezon City Medical Center College of Nursing. She was one of the 13 RN pioneers of the Lung Center of the Philippines.
She left the Philippines in 1982 to join her sister in Germany, then moved to America in 1985. Marietta joined the PNASA in 1996 and served in different committees since then.
Marietta served twice as PNASA's President in 2003 - 2005 and 2005-2007. During her administration, PNASA hosted the PNAA's 6th South Central Regional Conference in 2006 held in San Antonio TX. She was the first PNASA member to receive the Nurse Imagemaker award in 2011.
Mayet as she is fondly called works at the Emergency Room at the VA Medical Center. She is married to Medardo Dela Cruz who has been an active supporter of the organization, contributing his invaluable time and talent to PNASA.
Marietta has served PNASA in various positions including Vice President in the immediate past administration. She is currently the Chair of the Publicity Committee leading her team in managing the PNASA website- mypnasatx.org and is the lead administrator of the PNASA's Facebook.
Board Member-Lailani Ociones-Divina, BSN, RN
Lailani Ociones-Divina, a BSN graduate of University of Santo Tomas is currently pursuing her MSN from Norwich University. She is an OR Clinical and Operations Supervisor from Baptist Medical Center. She has been a nurse for 28 years with 14 years experience in the perioperative setting from the Philippines, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and the US.
As a nurse leader, Lailani is inspired by Benjamin Franklin's quote, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn." She is looking forward to making a difference in our nursing community through PNASA!
Board Member-Elcee Cortez, BSN, RN
Board Member- Floranie Ora, BSN, RN, CRRN
Floranie Ora is a graduate of Arellano University with Bachelor of Science in Nursing and with MSN units. She specializes in Rehabilitation and Medical/Surgical Nursing. She left her job in the Philippines to join the Al Nahyan Military Hospital as a Corporal nurse in United Arab Emirates where she received an Outstanding Achievement Award in 1999.
After the 1st Gulf war, she transitioned from being a military nurse to a civilian nurse relocating to San Antonio, Texas in 2004 at Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital. In 2006, she transferred to University Hospital at Reeves Rehab Center. She is recognized as a Management Development Academy Alumni of UHS San Antonio Texas 2010. Among her distinctions include 5-time Above and Beyond Recognition awardee,3-time on the spot recognition, 3-time PIN recognition for valuable contribution to UHS. She won 2nd place for 2009 Patient Safety Goals poster contest and 1st place for 2012 Healing Arts Exhibit.
Floranie has been an active member of PNASA since 2006 and served as Board Member and Chair of the Ways and Means Committee.
Josie F. Schantz, MSN, RN-BC, WCC
Josie was born in Dagupan City, Philippines and immigrated to the US when she was 11 years old. She grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Loyola University of Chicago. Upon graduation, she was commissioned in the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. While in the Air Force, she worked in nursing administration, education, medical, surgical, OB, oncology, and pediatric unit. She was also competitively selected to attend a nursing graduate program in 1990. Josie completed her Master’s degree in Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco in 1992. After 21 years of active service, Josie retired in 2005 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After retiring from the military, Josie worked as the Medical-Surgical Educator for Baptist Medical Center for nearly two years. Then, she joined KCI as a regional educator in 2007. In 2011, she was promoted to senior medical education manager where she and her team were responsible for all of the US customer product education. In 2015, she was promoted to global senior medical education manager where she was responsible for Acelity national customer education in Canada and consulted by other educators outside of the US. Josie has given lectures locally, nationally and internationally on a variety of wound care topics and Acelity/KCI products. In 2017, Josie left Acelity and is currently working as a Project Manager for Dannemiller on a part time basis.
Josie met her husband, Bob when she was in-processing in her first base. They have been married for 32 years and have 2 children. Her hobbies include gardening, reading and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
Board Member- Albert Tariela, MSN, RN, CCRN.
Albert Tariela is a BSN graduate from Far Eastern University. He finished his MSN at the Capella University. He is a Patient Care Coordinator/Unit Manager at Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Transplant ICU at UHS.
Parliamentarian Hedda Gonzalez, BSN, RN
Hedda is a graduate of Southern Island School of Nursing Cebu, City Philippines.
She served as PNASA President in 2012-2014 and hosted the PNA 33rd NationalConvention in San Antonio, Texas during her term.
Hedda volunteers her time helping deliver meals for Meals oOn Wheels program recipients.
Hedda owned and headed the Texas Health Quest Home Health Agency for several years and currently is a Care Coordinator for the University Health System.
